By basing all accounts on a 1 year pre-payment, we manage our billing, cash flow, and server capacity very efficiently. We never compromise on server speed or quality. You will actually find that our sites are some of the fastest on the net at peak times.
Although we are a Canadian company, our servers are physically located in the Eastern United States. This places us close to where 25% of the world's Internet traffic originates and to the massive transatlantic cables to Europe and Africa. The only effect that our Canadian status has on our American customers is that your dollar is worth about $1.46 here, eh.
We use US-based servers for several reasons. The Internet infrastructure in the US is much larger and more robust than in Canada. If a major Internet backbone goes down in Canada, nearly everything grinds to a halt. In the US, there are more alternate ways to route around trouble spots, and Sightz Productions servers are connected to the three largest of them. When there was a small fire at a telephone company building in Toronto in July 1999, most of the data networks in Canada were cut off - even the bank machines. Sightz Productions web sites continued to function flawlessly. If this happened in the US, our servers would simply find another route for your traffic. The US is also where the vast majority of Internet traffic comes from.
Our servers have multi-homed access into three Major Internet Backbones through high capacity OC12 fibre-optic data lines, meaning we have fast connections, and several ways to route around trouble or bottlenecks. We are careful to keep our bandwidth usage well below the capacity of our connections, so temporary jumps in web site traffic are handled gracefully.
No. All of our capacity and speed goes to hosting your web sites. Other hosting companies who also provide Internet Dial-up service (such as local ISP's) use a great deal of their capacity to handle the users dialing in to surf the Internet. This means that at peak times when many people will want to see your site, your web provider will be using most of their capacity for their dial-up users, leaving your potential customers waiting for your web site to come up. Your customers will appreciate that your web site isn't part of the "World Wide Wait"
We strictly enforce the following rule: Questionable or illegal activities will result in immediate termination of service. This includes pirated software, pornography, hate literature, libel, slander, fraud, pyramid schemes, chain letters, mailbombs, "spamming", "hacking", copyrighted music or images, etc. For the protection of us and our users, our policies document is very clear on acceptable content and use.
Nothing - we feel very strongly about unsolicited email or "SPAM". You are not welcome here. If we receive complaints or discover mass-emailing from our servers your account will be terminated immediately. Please refer to our strict Anti-Spam policy
Please report any abuse of our strict email policy to abuse @ sightz.com . If it turns out that one of our clients was using our service to send unwanted, harassing or bulk email, they are outta here. No questions asked. It's in the contract they signed.
We Have Exclusive Plans for Promoting
Your Site. We can analyze your site for strategic keywords, assuring your site will be close to the top of search engine's lists. We offer the exclusive ability to list your site with industry-specific directories. If you were in the oil business, for example, we would make sure that your site was listed in Oil Online and The Petroleum Business Directory. We will make sure that people find your website!
Over 1 Million domains were registered last year. If you have a unique company name, your domain may still be available. More common names will take some creativity. If widget.com is taken, consider widgetusa.com, widgetinc.com, widgetco.com, bestwidget.com, etc. We can also assist you in securing non "com" domains such as .net .org .to .ca See if your domain name is available by clicking here
Yes - we have extensive experience in dealing with domain name registrars, and will register your domain for you. Through special arrangement with the registrar, we are able to register your com, net, org or edu domain at a substantial discount the usual fees! We are careful to list YOU as the owner and billing contact with the registrar to ensure that YOU own your domain. Many Web hosts list their names as all of these, meaning that they technically own your name. Internic requires notarized documents to change a domain owner once established! You have unlimited access via FTP or Microsoft FrontPage 24-hours a day. You can create and maintain your web pages on any computer and upload files to your web site whenever you like.
We recommend Microsoft FrontPage. It handles complete web site creation, design, upload and maintenance in an easy-to learn format. It also offers capabilities that are difficult to add on your own, such as hit counters, form creation and validation, hover buttons, searches, etc. All of our web sites include FrontPage support at no extra charge. A simple but effective web page editor is built into Netscape Navigator version 3 and above.
We place very reasonable traffic limits on our servers for one reason: your protection. Servers that offer unlimited traffic tend to attract websites with extreme numbers of visitors, such as adult sites and software distributors. Because all servers have limitations to the volume they can handle, other sites on these unlimited servers are left sluggish or unavailable when your potential clients try to visit. We feel that our generous traffic quotas are a small price to pay for guaranteed 99% uptime, and the security of not sharing a line with questionable sites. If you find that your site becomes extremely popular, you may upgrade to a larger package at any time (and accept our congratulations!). We have NEVER had a client even come close to using up their monthly traffic allowance.
We use a state-of-the-art voicemail/fax system in all of our offices that is programmed to distinguish between fax and voice calls automatically . Our clients find it very convenient to be able to use the same number for both types of calls. Unfortunately, some older fax machines are "confused" when they hear a voice answer instead of a fax machine. The solution? Press '2' after the voice recording has answered, and the system will generate standard fax tones that will allow smooth sending with all fax machines. Older versions of PC Fax software have trouble sending to some fax machines. This can usually be fixed by turning off compression and error correction in the fax software.
As mentioned above, we are very happy users of InternetSecure for our credit card billing services. We are pleased to recommend them to our customers, and can provide assistance in getting your application approved and your ecommerce site online. The great thing about InternetSecure is that almost any web site can set up a merchant account. If you have looked into this with your bank, you know that the Canadian banks ask for up to $$$50,000 in security deposits just to set up an online merchant account. InternetSecure does not require that!
